Tobacco Road FC Hosts Defending National Champion Charlotte Eagles

DURHAM, NC- Wednesday night features a home fixture for Tobacco Road FC as they host the defending Premier Development League National Champions, Charlotte Eagles. Wednesdays match will be played at Durham County Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.

“It’s a big opportunity for us,” said head coach Cedric Burke. “These guys are here to play the best competition. We play in arguably the best conference in the country. We are excited.”

Tobacco Road last faced off with the Eagles on July 1, 2017, as Los Toros celebrated a 1-0 victory at home by the way of an early goal from Nils Bruening in the 13th minute. Last season in the PDL, Tobacco Road had a 1-2 record against the Eagles. The results were as follows: 5/25/17 L, 1-4… 6/17/17 L, 0-1… 7/1/17 W, 1-0.

Tobacco Road remains at the top of the table of the South Atlantic Division, so far being the only team to start the season with two wins. Lionsbridge FC follows Tobacco Road with five points by the way of one win and two ties.

Last week Tobacco Road hosted cross-town rival North Carolina FC U-23 in their home opener on Thursday. Three goals were enough for the home team to come out on top. Eli Garner, Champe Mendoza and Mustapha Wadda all put the ball in the back of the net to lead Tobacco Road to victory by a 3-1 margin in the Triangle Derby.

The Charlotte Eagles come off a bye week as their scheduled match against Lionsbridge FC was postponed due to weather. In their first game of the season, the Eagles defeated last year’s division champions Myrtle Beach Mutiny 2-1.
