Tobacco Road FC Travels to Charlotte to Face Charlotte Eagles
DURHAM, NC – Tobacco Road FC travels to Matthews, NC on Wednesday to take on the Charlotte Eagles in a crucial match for both teams. Both teams need a win to mathematically stay in the running for the elusive playoff spot from the South Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The match will be at 7 p.m. at Matthews Sportsplex.
Series History:
Tobacco Road FC is 1-3-1 against the Eagles in PDL play. Less than a week ago Tobacco road traveled down to Charlotte and played out a 0-0 draw after an hour and a half rain delay. Los Toros created an abundance of chances and outshot the Eagles 16-7 but couldn’t find the back of the net. Tobacco Road goalkeeper Ryan Cretens did well to keep his clean sheet.

Currently in the South Atlantic Division Standings, Tobacco Road FC sits in fifth with eleven points on three wins, five losses and two ties. The Eagles are one spot ahead with eleven points on three wins, four losses and two ties. The only thing separating Los Toros and the Eagles is one goal, as the Eagles have the advantage in goal differential -6 to -7.

Last Time Out:
Last Friday Tobacco Road hosted the Carolina Dynamo. Los Toros started slow, giving up a penalty kick in the 24th minute. The Dynamo converted and took the lead into the half. In the beginning minutes of the second half Tobacco Road made multiple substitutes that seemed to ignite the side. A Mustapha Wadda free kick in the 67th minute found the head of Champe Mendoza to equalize. The hosts took the lead in the 76th off another set piece as Mendoza’s corner was headed into the back of the net by Mike Bamber. It looked to be a beautiful comeback. In stoppage time a defensive mistake by Tobacco Road gave the ball to a Dynamo forward who tied the game 2-2 in essentially the last play of the match.
The Charlotte Eagles travelled to Statesboro, Georgia to challenge undefeated Deep South Division leaders South Georgia Tormenta FC. Charlotte shocked the Tormenta in the first half with a goal from Rafael Vacas and went into the break with the lead. South Georgia came out swinging in the second half, scoring in the 59th, 66th and 76th. Chalrotte’s Lucas Rosa pulled one back for the visitors before the Tormenta scored in the 90th to seal the deal, 4-2.
