Tobacco Road FC Travels to Face Myrtle Beach Mutiny

DURHAM, NC- Tobacco Road FC begins its three-match road stretch by travelling to the North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area to face Premier Development League South Atlantic Division leader Myrtle Beach Mutiny on Wednesday in their home opener. The match will be played at North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex and will kick off at 7:10 p.m.

“It’s Myrtle,” said head coach Cedric Burke. “We’ve had a rivalry with them since we were an amateur club. Typically play them well on the road. They’re good.”

Tobacco Road last met Myrtle Beach on Saturday June 3, 2017, as they travelled to NMB Park and Sport Complex and topped the hosts 4-2. A five-goal first half highlighted by Eli Garner’s brace gave fans plenty of entertainment. Tobacco Road came on the better end, leading 3-2 at the break. Edward Mullin gave Los Toros assurance by finding the net in the 48th.  This was Myrtle Beach’s only loss of the 2017 season. 

Last year, Tobacco Road FC and the Myrtle Beach Mutiny clashed twice. Both times the away team won. The results were as follows: 5/19 L, 1-3… 6/3 W, 4-2.

Tobacco Road comes off their first loss of the season, a 1-2 defeat at home at the hands of the defending national champions, the Charlotte Eagles, last Wednesday night. The match featured two of the top teams in the division. Mauricio Pineda tied the match in the second half to ignite the hosts to keep pushing. Charlotte’s counterattack in the 87th minute proved to be the match winner. 

The Myrtle Beach Mutiny last took the pitch on Saturday as they travelled to the Virginia Peninsula to deliver PDL newcomers Lionsbridge FC their first loss of the season. Jon Ander Ibarrondo assisted in the fifth minute and scored in the 73rd to push the Mutiny to victory.

Tobacco Road travels to Cary on Saturday, June 2, to take on cross town rival North Carolina FC U-23 in the triangle derby at Wake Med Soccer Park. The match is at 4:30 p.m.
