Tobacco Road FC Hosts North Carolina FC U-23

DURHAM, NC – Tobacco Road FC looks to continue getting back on track in the third edition of the Triangle Derby as it hosts North Carolina FC U-23 on Wednesday. This will be the third time these teams have met. The match will be at Durham County Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Series History:

The Triangle Derby needs little explanation. Two cross-Triangle rivals meet again for the third time in 2018. The season series is split, the series history in the PDL is even as well with both teams having two wins, two losses and one tie. It’s a deadlock. Tobacco Road has a one goal advantage over the last five meetings as they lead in goals scored 12-11.

Divisional Standings: 

Currently in the South Atlantic Division Standings, Tobacco Road FC sits in fourth with nine points on two wins and four losses. North Carolina FC U-23 is in second place in the division and boasts 15 points on four wins, two losses and three ties. Although six points behind NCFC U-23, Los Toros is two games behind as NCFC U-23 has played nine compared to Tobacco Road’s seven.

Last Time Out: 

Last Wednesday Tobacco Road FC got revenge on Lionsbridge FC. Tobacco Road played hosts to the visitors from Virginia and Mustapha Wadda put in an early goal for the hosts to set the tone. Tobacco Road went into the break up a goal. Los Toros started the second half hot with Ben Fisher scoring in the 54th minute and Oscar Moreno in the 75th. Lionsbridge FC gave the hosts a scare by putting in two goals in the last ten minutes but the hosts held on to take the three points. 

A Dean Rutherford brace led North Carolina FC U-23 to a 3-0 win over Lionsbridge FC in Newport News, Virginia. NCFC controlled the match, outshooting Lionsbridge 16-8. Sheriff Secka got the visitors on the board in the fifth minute and they didn’t look back. Rutherford expanded the visitors lead in the 36th and the 54th minutes. 

Match Promotions:

It is Kids Day at Tobacco Road FC meaning that kids get in free with an adult. The first 30 fans in the stadium will receive a TRFC car magnet! Pre-match entertainment includes live music brought to you by For Good Measure and face paintings for kids. 

Wednesday’s match will also feature a 50/50 raffle. Tickets will be sold one ticket for $2 or three tickets for $5 and will be available for the raffle at the gate. In addition to receiving half of the money collected the winner of the raffle will also receive a Tobacco Road FC scarf.

During halftime of the match, kids will have the opportunity to take a penalty kick on Tobacco Road FC goalkeeper James Johnson. Tickets to take a PK will be $1 and limited to 15 spots. To sign up for the event, register at the merchandise table.

Tooties will also be bringing their dessert truck for the Tobacco Road fans. In addition to Tooties, Mighty Frozen will be at Durham County Memorial Stadium as well to help fans beat the heat.
